The frequent intense headaches, sore or locked jaw, and pain in your neck and shoulders can be the result of various different causes. One of the main problems with TMJ Disorder is the difficulty in diagnosis; because the symptoms are so similar to other conditions, TMJ disorder usually goes undiagnosed or is misdiagnosed and incorrectly treated. Home Remedies for TMJ

Massage—Discomfort in the jaw can usually originate from tense muscles or spasms. Gently massage the jaw joints that are located directly in front of your ears to help relieve the tension.
Heat—Application of heat is a time-honored method of relaxing tense and sore muscles. Use a heating pad to ease aching jaw, neck, and shoulder muscles. If you do not have a heating pad, use a wash cloth and hot water. Be careful to keep the temperature low enough not to burn the sensitive skin in these areas.
Cold—Ice packs are also an excellent choice for pain relief. If you experience a combination of pain and tightness, try applying heat for about 20 minutes, and then applying cold for about five minutes. Keep alternating until relief is achieved.
Medications—Over-the-counter analgesics can be of great help in relieving the tension of your jaw. Aspirin and ibuprofen can also assist in inflammation control.
Habits—Become aware of habits that place undue stress on the jaw muscles and joints. Slouching over a desk or table and with your head in your hands, or cradling a telephone between your cheek and shoulder, are common unconscious work habits that can exacerbate your TMJ Disorder. Try to keep your posture straight, and raise your workspace or lower your chair to avoid the need to slouch. Invest in a headset or speaker option for your phone if you must use both hands during a phone call. If you have a habit of grinding your teeth (bruxism), try placing a small piece of cork in between your upper and lower front teeth to keep your jaws relaxed and separated.
Relax–Stress is a major contributing factor to TMJ Disorder. In fact, the first signs of TMJ dysfunction symptoms often appear during stressful moments. Take time to conduct relaxation techniques, such as deep breathing or yoga, to reduce your stress levels.
