Give Yourself a New Smile with InvisalignⓇ

Here’s what you may have noticed, regular braces aren’t the only way to straighten your smile. Although traditional braces remain effective in their purpose, there are faster and more comfortable options available.

At Comfort Dental Spa in Farmington Hills, Michigan our team of compassionate staff and providers are here to guide you to optimal oral health. Our practice is proud to offer Invisalign clear aligners for anyone who wants a camera-ready smile. Understanding some of the other great reasons to straighten your smile can help you better understand why we chose Invisalign.

Oral health comes first

The American Academy of Orthodontics makes it clear: Straight teeth tend to be healthier teeth. When your teeth are misaligned, meaning that they meet differently than they should in a straight smile, this can cause some problems. Besides the effect that having a misaligned bite has on your ability to chew properly, you may find that your teeth are wearing down, or you’re experiencing pain in your jaw.

Crooked or misaligned teeth are called malocclusions, Latin for ‘bad bite,’ and they can contribute to dental issues. Crooked teeth are, by nature, harder to clean than straight teeth. Crooked teeth have the opportunity to hide food particles and foreign objects between teeth, putting you at risk of gingivitis, which can lead to gum disease.

Thorough brushing and flossing twice daily is an important standard of daily dental care for everyone, but if you have crooked or misaligned teeth, it is especially important to make sure to remove every bit of particulate from between your teeth. If particulate in your mouth is left trapped below the gumline, it hardens into plaque and can also cause gingivitis.

Traditional braces vs Invisalign

It’s important to have a healthy smile, and straightening your smile comes with two different options. Traditional braces are an effective tool to treat your malocclusion, and for some people, they are the best fit for their lifestyle. If your provider recommends traditional braces for your malocclusion, there could be a number of reasons, including necessary maxillofacial surgery.

Despite the benefits of traditional metal braces, the way they look makes some people self-conscious about daily life, even when speaking or laughing. Metal braces are also known to pinch the sensitive skin inside of the mouth, necessitating the use of wax, or an agent to protect the lips and cheeks.

As reliable as traditional braces are, Invisalign presents more options, and for many people, a better experience. Instead of a long appointment of installing wire braces on to the teeth, your provider at Comfort Dental Spa uses a special scanner to create a model of your teeth. The model is adjusted and perfected in a computer, and a treatment plan is created for you.

Your custom aligners to start your treatment plan will be available within a few weeks. You start your treatment as soon as you receive your first set of aligners. Though traditional braces leave you with no options when you’re eating, drinking, and caring for your teeth, Invisalign has the upper hand by being removable.

You will need to wear your Invisalign trays for at least 22 hours every day to get your results. Though two hours of freedom may not seem substantial, you won’t have to navigate floss through immovable metal wire, and you can eat and drink comfortably, without being concerned about anything getting stuck in your braces.

Traditional braces require you to come into the office for uncomfortable adjustments to keep you on track during your treatment. Invisalign trays can be sent directly to your home every two weeks. While using Invisalign, you will check in with your provider once every other month to monitor your progress, and address any concerns.
