Understanding the Different Whitening Products to Brighten My Smile

Hate how yellow your teeth look? Have DIY tooth whitening options failed you? Do you take tetracycline or another medication that makes your teeth stay yellow? We can help.

At Comfort Dental Spa in Farmington Hills, Michigan, our team of compassionate staff and providers can deliver brilliant white smiles using one of two specialized teeth whitening processes.

How professional teeth whitening works

Professional teeth whitening is a fast, easy path to a bright, gorgeous smile. At Comfort Dental Spa, we have two options for tooth whitening, and our team will discuss with you which one better suits your needs.

The best option is usually to pick a system, receive in-office whitening, then continue with an at-home tray regimen to keep your teeth looking brilliant. Our options let us tailor your treatment to the level of whitening desired as well as your lifestyle and budget.

Teeth whitening uses a high-concentration hydrogen peroxide bleaching gel that is put in contact with your teeth for an extended period of time. The problem is that saliva destroys hydrogen peroxide’s bleaching power quickly. Our professional whitening options are designed to get around this issue.

One choice, the Zoom whitening method, uses a special bright light to activate the gel and make it work faster and more efficiently. Our other option, KöR whitening, doesn’t use a light but instead uses specially sealed trays to keep the whitening gel at full power by preventing saliva from touching the gel while it’s working.

Zoom

During the procedure, you’ll sit comfortably in a dentist’s chair, and we’ll put a plastic guard in your mouth to protect your gums and lips. Then we’ll paint the gel onto your teeth, and the Philips Zoom Blue LED light-accelerated technology will activate the gel.

The gel mixture whitens your teeth rapidly while the Amorphous Calcium Phosphate (ACP) ingredient delivers enamel protection, enhances luster, and reduces gum and tooth sensitivity. Zoom takes about an hour, and you can achieve up to eight shades of lightening in a single in-office visit. After your treatment, we’ll set you up with at-home whitening trays to help you maintain your white smile

KöR

KöR-Seal™ trays are designed to seal saliva out of the whitening trays. These trays plus KöR whitening gels provide 6-10 hours of whitening activity, meaning that after your in-office treatment is done, your take-home kit will still be quite powerful.

We usually recommend you use this option if you have serious stains on your teeth because of your need to take certain types of medications. KöR can penetrate deeply between and within enamel prisms for rejuvenated whiteness that is long-lasting and maintainable.
